THOUGH NOT AS SKINNY or sexy as the MacBook Air, the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 offers business-class computing without a hint of compromise. If you can afford the price (our unit cost $2,936), you'll find it a first-rate traveling companion.
In terms of looks, the X300 has the same matte-black finish, square comers, and no-nonsense design as virtually every ThinkPad before it. On the other hand, the 3.4-pound notebook feels quite rugged for such a skinny customer (0.9 inches at its thickest point, 0.7 inch at its thinnest), plus it includes a modular DVD drive (which can be swapped out for a second battery).
