The Everson Museum of Art has named Steven Kern its new director. The appointment was approved at the museum's board of trustees meeting Monday.

Currently, Kern is director of the William Benton Museum of Art at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, which is the state's official art museum. During his 25-year career, Kern has held museum positions in San Diego and Massachusetts. He will become the Everson's ninth director in its 112 years.

Of the four candidates interviewed, the museum's six-member search committee was in agreement on Kern.
