When Orson Welles's Othello was rereleased in 1992 in a restored version, several Welles scholars complained that although the digitally corrected soundtrack and rerecording of the score had technically improved the overall sound quality, they had also significantly altered the film's sound and music design as conceived by Welles and composer Francesco Lavagnino. Now Welles's original version - transferred from a 35mm fine-grain master print made from the black-and-white camera negative - is available in a Criterion Collection laserdisc from The Voyager Company.
