Article: LISBON TREATY : RATIFICATION "NOT SIMPLE" IN CZECH REPUBLIC.(Brief article)

The ratification of the Lisbon Treaty in the Czech Republic has been postponed to next autumn. Some see the decision as a manoeuvre by the country's Eurosceptic political leaders.

MEP Libor Roucek (PES), a member of the opposition in his country, commented: "President Vaclav Klaus and the government led by Mirek Topolanek [ODS Party, Liberal right] hope to see the Irish referendum fail on 12 June". Meanwhile, "they have delayed parliament's vote on the treaty". The Senate has decided to initiate proceedings before the Constitutional Court to check whether the EU text is compatible with the Czech constitution.
