Atlanta - Visitors to Atlanta today will have a hard time believing that it bears the honor of being the only American city ever destroyed in war. History buffs (or fans of Gone With the Wind), however, will remember that Union General William Sherman torched the town in 1864 when he led his "March to the Sea" through Georgia.
Today the city is a thriving metropolis, which boasts professional teams in every sport, shopping malls on every corner, and of course, the Cable News Network (CNN) in every home.
