On 23 May, the upper house of the German Parliament, the Bundesrat, ratified the Lisbon Treaty by a large majority, one month after its adoption by the Bundestag. Fifteen of the sixteen German Lander (states) seated in the Bundesrat thus declared themselves in favour of the EU text.
