NEW YORK, Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Travelers renting cars may soon have to dig deeper into their pockets as a result of a hefty new car rental surcharge being levied on car rental agencies in several major cities.
According to Travel Weekly, the leading travel industry newspaper, it's the result of an unusual twist: numerous U.S. cities have recently discovered that car rental agencies are a viable revenue source when it comes to funding new sports arenas for professional sports teams that relocate or threaten to do so.
