METALS industry employers have been urged to make the UK industry more competitive in global markets by stepping up apprentice recruitment and boosting skills.
The calls come from Stephen Tilsley and Richard Morley, chairman and vice-chairman of MetSkill, the strategic skills body for the UK metals industry and part of the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies.
Speaking at Metskill's annual apprentice awards event in the Cutlers' Hall, Mr Tilsley, chief executive of Metsec, the UK's largest specialist cold roll-forming company, said: "Let's raise the bar, let's step up our intake of apprentices and aim for 20 per ...
