BRIAN Cowen came under intense fire from Yes camp allies yesterday afterclaiming he knew precisely what was in the Lisbon Treaty even though he hadstill not read the document in its entirety.
The Taoiseach, under pressure as the No side narrowed the gap in weekend polls,said his failure to read the treaty cover to cover was not a problem as he hadprobably negotiated more lines of it than anybody else when he was foreignminister.
The Taoiseach made the extraordinary claim even though he was actually involvedin putting together the EU Constitution in 2004 rather than the Lisbon Treatythat succeeded it.
