FITCHBURG - Reaching down to free a trapped beaver from an unauthorized foot trap yesterday afternoon, Michael East said he wasn't afraid of getting bitten by the 50-pound animal.
"I'm a country boy from Georgia," said Mr. East, who works for the city's Department of Public Works and has spent the past month as the city's part-time animal control officer. "Beavers and possums and all those critters are pretty much secondhand to me."
He was summoned by police yesterday afternoon to Authority Drive to deal with the trapped animal in a culvert. Officers Michael Sevigny and Todd Deacon were already trying to help the animal - ...
