Bruton Smith said he expects the NASCAR Sprint Cup series to race next season at Kentucky Speedway, moments after announcing his company had agreed to purchase the track.
NASCAR isn't as excited about another Midwestern Cup race.
Let the negotiations begin.
While Smith boasted of a Cup date at the 1.5-mile speedway next year, he wouldn't say where it would come from - whether he'd move a date from one of his tracks or purchase another track, such as Pocono or Dover, and move a date to Kentucky. Either way, NASCAR must approve such moves. That will take some cajoling.
