MEMORIAL DAY weekend is traditionally baseball's first official checkpoint for fiddling with panic buttons - anybody home, Detroit Tigers? - and fantastic visions: See Brandon Webb.
We'll let the 18-27 Tigers flounder for another day, except to wonder if the pitching on this supposed powerhouse, including a bullpen that has blown 6 of 13 save opportunities, is really as bad as it has been.
As for Webb, a righthander with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the torrid late-May issue is whether he can really be this great - by historic proportions.
Webb, the '06 Cy Young winner in the National League, is 9-0 for baseball's best team (28-17) so far. Nine ...
