SOUTHBRIDGE - Despite a slowdown in the housing and construction sectors, things aren't drying up at Hyde Tools Inc.

The 133-year-old company accounts for 47 percent of the market in hand tools for paint, drywall, and wall covering, up from 22 percent in 2005, Hyde said, citing new statistics from the Paint & Decorating Retailers Association.

The growth rate in market share is "almost unheard of" for the industry, said Karen Wilson, marketing officer for the 206-employee company, which was founded in Southbridge in 1875.
