One in five children, ie 185,000, live in poverty, despite the recent economic boom, according to the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG). In its latest report, Left Behind: How social and income inequalities damage New Zealand children, CPAG says poverty in the early years of life imposes very high costs on children, their families and society.
The report, written by heat[h, education, economics and other experts, spells out how inequality is harming all aspects of children's lives and how to address this. Co-ordinated solutions across art sectors were essential.
