Article: NEW SOUTH WALES GOVT FORECASTS BUDGET SURPLUS FOR 2008/09.

SYDNEY, June 3 Asia Pulse - The New South Wales government has delivered its thirteenth straight budget surplus after cutting some taxes and substantially increase spending on infrastructure.

The government has forecast a A$268 million (US$255.91 million) operating budget surplus for the 2008/09 financial year.

"This budget balances the challenges of delivering improved services, investing more in infrastructure, and cutting taxes," State Treasurer Michael Costa told parliament in his budget speech.

The 2008/09 surplus was calculated in line with new Australian and international accounting standards.
