In November of 1995, Wine Club and six other wine retailers were named in a suit by the state of Florida filed in Federal Court in Tallahassee. The suit seeks an injunction against direct sales of wine to Florida consumers and fines equal to $10,000 per transaction. The punitive lawsuit, which was based on a "sting" operation where wine was ordered from advertisements in national wine publications or nationally available product catalogs, also seeks to include every wine seller in the country, including wineries, that have shipped wine to Florida consumers.
