CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The diagnostic products division of Genzyme Corp.'s General Division (Nasdaq: GENZ) announced today that it has signed an agreement with Daiichi Pure Chemicals Co., Ltd., of Tokyo, under which Genzyme will distribute Daiichi's new cholesterol test throughout the world.

The new test is designed to detect how much high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol is present in a patient's blood. It is easier to perform than other HDL cholesterol tests currently on the market because it eliminates the need to pretreat patient samples manually.
