LOCAL martial arts coach Dan Redmond has returned from a visit to Okinawa, the hme of karate.
Having previously made his first visit there two years ago, this time he stayed on the island for two weeks.
Dan trained at the dojo of Master Tetsuhiro Hokama in the small village of Nishahara, living in a room above the dojo and having his meals in a local restaurant.
During the day he trained in the dojo and took advanced lessons from the Master and then in the evening he joined the regular class for more training.
Dan found the Okinawan Karate Ka extremely tough, but particularly enjoyed training with the kami (jars filled with pebbles). ...
