Article: Dr. Leonidas H. Berry, prominent medical pioneer, 93, dies.(Obituary)

Dr. Leonidas H. Berry, an internationally recognized authority on digestive diseases and endoscopy, recently died at his home in Chicago. Dr. Berry was 93.

Dr. Berry trained hundreds of physicians and authored several books including the authoritative Gastrointestinal PanEndoscopy, based on his years of experiences as a teacher.

Dr. Berry became the first Black physician admitted to the staff of Chicago's Michael Reese Hospital in 1946. In the same year, he became the first Black internist at Cook County Hospital. In 1975, he retired as chief of endoscopy service and senior attending physician at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
