EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes and Information Society Commissioner Viviane Reding intend to propose to their colleagues to extend the current state aid scheme for cinema until late 2012,confirmed a spokesperson, on 19 May.
"This will allow us both to study more thoroughly the territoriality clauses in the current regime and at the same time to examine new phenomena like digital production and distribution aid," he explained.
In force in the EU since 2001, this exemption system - justified because it affects culture - had been extended to late 2009 barely one year ago. The Commission is giving itself time, while it has planned for several years to modify ...
