REDUCED VAT RATES : COMMERCIAL TV STATIONS DEFEND EXISTING REGIME.

Europe's commercial television stations have urged the European Commission to maintain the reduced VAT rates currently applied to broadcasting services in certain EU countries, arguing that failure to do so will penalise consumers.

The commercial broadcasters in the member states that currently enjoy a reduced VAT rate could pass on the costs of a reform to consumers, warns the Association of Commercial Television in Europe (ACT), in response to a consultation on revision of the VAT Directive (2006/112/EC), concluded on 12 May.
