As satellites know no limits, the European Parliament opened the way for a selection of pan-European satellite operators who want to market high-speed internet connections, access to mobile television and emergency and civil protection services in the 27 EU member states. Applicants for the use of radio frequencies reserved for these services in the EU (S-band) will also profit from a coordinated authorisation from the national authorities.
Adopted by a large majority, on 21 May in Strasbourg, the compromise reached with the Council assigns precise eligibility criteria to applicants: coverage of at least 60% of the EU's territory at the launch of their project. Then, after ...
