American Samoa Gov. Togiola Tulafono has signed documents to expedite bringing the first undersea fiber optic cable to American Samoa. It s anticipated the cable will land in the first quarter of 2009.

Governor Togiola says the submarine fiber optic cable is the most significant economic development project of the last several decades.

The sea change that this project represents is absolutely tremendous. American Samoa has until now been dependent on the canneries for as long as we can remember, the governor says.
