A NEW Chief Inspector has started work at Dewsbury Police Station.
Chief Insp Ged McManus, head of operations in Kirklees, began work at Dewsbury on Monday after opting to transfer from Huddersfield.
His first task is to oversee the doubling of the police station's holding cells from 16 to 32.
A pre-fabricated structure will be installed on a six-month trial basis to see how Dewsbury fares as a custody centre for the whole of Kirklees.
Chief Insp McManus said the extra cells would replace outdated facilities in Huddersfield and would bring an extra 50 police staff to Dewsbury - but he said he was not the 'project manager'.
