GOLF is an addiction that has helped keep 100-year-old Joe Simon going.
The young-at-heart grandfather celebrates his century today with a birthday tea laid on for him by Moor Allerton Golf Club in north Leeds.
He has been playing for nearly 80 years and in 1935 he won the Leeds Municipal Championship at Temple Newsam. In his prime he played off a handicap of four.
Even on his 99th birthday he enjoyed a little putting.
"I played three of the best shots I have ever done ," he said.
Today, daughter Elaine from Cheshire and other members of the family were hoping to persuade him out onto the green again.
