FITCHBURG - June is National Rivers Month, and yesterday state and local officials and environmental advocates gathered at Fitchburg's Riverfront Park on the banks of the North Nashua River to kick it off.
They also honored a woman who led the efforts and enlisted the help of thousands to improve the river's condition. The Nashua River runs clear through Fitchburg, but that was not always the case, because of pollutants from manufacturing plants on the river.
