I always wonder what B.J. and Justin Upton think when they run across media hand-wringing over the scarcity of American black athletes in pro baseball.
I do know the brothers could commission an extensive and expensive sociological study if they wanted to. Eleven million dollars - the combined total of their signing bonuses for being No. 2 and No. 1 overall draft picks, respectively - would buy a lot of printer paper.
Then again, you have to wonder what Tim Beckham, this year's No. 1 pick, thinks. And last year's No. 1, David Price. And 2003's No. 1, Delmon Young, who preceded Justin Upton by two years. All are American-born black players doing quite well for ...
