WASHINGTON | Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, a former Kellam and U.Va. standout, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
On Monday, Zimmerman was diagnosed with a small tear in his left, nonthrowing shoulder, which he injured during a headfirst slide into second base at Baltimore on May 18. He has missed the past seven games because of soreness in the shoulder; the move to the DL is retroactive to May 26. Zimmerman is batting .257 and leads the Nationals in homers (eight) and RBIs (27).
"I'm upset. I'm frustrated," Zimmerman said. "It's tough for me not to be able to play."
