The United Arab Emirates will start talks with the French government on the possible purchase of Dassault Aviation SA's Rafale fighter plane, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in a statement.
The U.A.E. is ``looking at the Rafale to replace its 63 Mirage 2000'' fighters, Sarkozy's office said in the statement late yesterday. There's no date set for the talks, nor any commercial talks with the company at this stage, it said.
Were a contract to be signed soon, the first deliveries of aircraft could start in 2012, the statement said.
