Greece's largest electricity utility Public Power Corp (PPC) (DEHr.AT: Quote, Profile, Research) has received five bids to build a new power plant on the island of Rhodes to meet increasing demand, it said on Friday.

PPC will spend 250 million euros ($390.2 million) to build an oil-powered 110 to 120 MW plant on the southern part of the island. The plant, which will also have the capacity of using natural gas, is expected to become fully operational by 2012.
