Austrian Airlines Group, owner of the country's largest carrier, said it's buying jet fuel direct from Kuwait Petroleum International Ltd. to minimize more-costly purchases from local refiner OMV AG.

Half of the 380,000 tons of kerosene the airline requires annually at Vienna International Airport is provided through so-called ``self fueling'' after flows from Kuwait Petroleum began last month, spokeswoman Livia Dandrea-Boehm said in an interview. That's up from 27 percent previously.
