UK small caps ended the day higher, as the wider market also stayed in the black, with Appian Technology rising 25 percent on the back of three contract wins. At the close, the FTSE small cap index was up 16.6 points at 3,216.6, while the FTSE 100 index climbed 45.8 points to 6,261.0.

Appian Technology shares ended the day up 0.90 pence at 4.45, The provider of ANPR systems and traffic management products announced it won three new contracts totaling 402,000 pounds to install fixed site automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems from two new commercial customers and a UK metropolitan police force.
