Laker Girls sat along the edge of the court, springing up to cheer after every Kobe basket.
In the stands, fans shouted in fits of agony and ecstasy at every turn of the Lakers' fortune.
The only thing missing was the Lakers.
But that didn't stop some 5,200 die-hard fans from showing up at Staples Center on Thursday to watch the opening game of the NBA Championship series on massive TV screens.
While the stands would have been a lot fuller -- and the seats a lot more expensive -- if the team was actually courtside, it was still better than watching from home.
