The Washington County Fair is banning smoking in additional areas of the grounds.
Smoking has long been forbidden in buildings and tents at the Washington County Fair as a courtesy to the public. The fair's board of directors recently expanded the ban to the grandstand as a courtesy to the public, said Director Mark St. Jacques. "People are sitting close together and you can't get away from it if someone is smoking next to you or in front of you," St. Jacques said.
He said the staff will post signs around the grandstand, which seats 4,000 people. Smoking is still allowed on the Greenwich fairgrounds. Although the decision was ...
