Honor'e Lannuier, Samuel McIntire, Duncan Phyfe, John and Thomas Seymour, and John Townsend are among the cabinetmakers whose furniture is featured in a new semipermanent exhibition entitled Into the Woods: Crafting Early American Furniture at Historic Deerfield in Massachusetts. As its title suggests, the installation considers not only the beauty of these objects, but also their materials and construction and the business of furniture making. The co-curators Joshua Lane and Philip Zea created the exhibition to explore the value of wood as both an artistic medium and as a commodity.
