Medical disorders can now be scrutinized by the most sophisticated techniques in the history of modern medicine. Most of the advances have happened within the past ten years. Many consider the unprecedented breakthrough of medical technology to be the "Golden Age" of Medical Diagnosis.
From the "horse-and-buggy-days" of the first stethoscope, urinalysis and diagnosis by odor (a technique used since ancient times), and the discovery of x-rays more than a hundred years ago, the process of diagnosis has been limited to external observation.
