The country's chicken farms are only small and medium industries using traditional and semi modern management systems. The production factors of chicken farm industry such as DOCs and feed are still dominated by large investors. The chicken farm industry, however, has been able to meet the domestic demand for chicken meat. The country's production of chicken meat totaled 1.27 million tons as against consumption of 1.2 million tons in 2007.

The chicken farm industry, however, is still oriented to domestic market. Java has the largest chicken farms. More than 50% of the country's production of chicken meat is produced in Java. Java has small and modern chicken farms.
