AN estimated six million people in the UK devote their time to looking after a loved one.
This week their selfless work is being celebrated as part of National Carers' Week.
We spoke to one such person, Joe Grant, about the joys and frustrations of life as a full-time carer.
Mr Grant became a full-time carer for his wife Blanche after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
"It's hard, it's very hard. But it's the love for my wife which keeps me strong," the 79-year-old said.
Every day he feeds and dresses her, and helps her to the toilet, as well as ensuring the medication she takes is correct.
