The New York Port Authority Board of Commissioners wants to achieve carbon neutrality from the Port's activities by 2010. The challenge is enormous--especially considering that in 2007 the city's four major airports handled 109,983,372 passengers, a five per cent increase compared to 2006. It plans to attain zero carbon emissions by making a series of capital investments and operational improvements. Investing in new environmental technologies and regional projects, such as wind farms and greenhouse gas capture initiatives, will offset the remainder of its carbon footprint.
