German sport and leisure boat builder, Mega Sports Vertriebs, is manufacturing a lightweight canoe using the vacuum bag moulding method as opposed to rotomoulding. To achieve this, the company has employed technical fabric (Twintex), provided by Owens Corning Inc, USA.
The combination of Twintex and vacuum bag moulding enables the production of low volume, large thermoplastic composite parts that have good mechanical performance and long-life criteria. The canoe is stiff, abrasive- and impact-resistant, and not subject to part shrinkage during processing.
The canoe, called the Robson Brook-16, measures 488 cm long, has a beam of 99 cm and depth of 48 cm. To achieve a ...
