Irish troops come under fire in Chad rebel offensive
IRISH peacekeeping soldiers came under fire in Chad for the first time yesterday.
The Irish army replied with heavy machine guns after they took fire while protecting refugee camps in the area.
It is not clear whether the fire was directed at the Irish army or if they were in the line of fire of another target.
Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea planned to visit the Irish outpost in Chad next week, but his plans are in doubt because of the fighting and the closure of the airport.
