Perhaps the world's finest private museum of 20th-century paintings and sculpture, the Fondation Beyeler lies outside Basel and has no car park. To reach it, just about everyone--be they London dealer, New York collector or art enthusiast--takes the number six tram from the town. It trundles across the Rhine, where locals swim on sultry summer days, cuts through the newer districts and soon arrives at the smart suburb of Riehen on the edge of open countryside.
