Using illustrative case histories, the authors recount their experience in treating insomnia in the U.S., where 10% of the population and 50% of the elderly suffer from insomnia and women form the majority of patients. Four types are differentiated. 1. Heart-Kidney disharmony. This occurs as a result of anxiety and fatigue, febrile disease which consumes the yin or depressive Liver qi causing excessive fire which also consumes the yin.
