The continuous use of oral contraceptives may be more effective in suppressing the ovary and improving pain and behavioral changes than standard 28-day birth control pills, according to an April 3, 2008, news release from Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, Pennsylvania. In a standard cyclical dose of oral contraceptives, 21 hormone pills are used to prevent pregnancy by suppressing growth in the endometrium and lining of the uterus. Research indicates that continuous oral contraception may be more effective in treating several medical conditions where continuous ovary suppression is desired.
