"Our limit has been reached! We cannot serve them!" Thus wrote the Carmelite Dutch priest, Fr. Titus Brandsma, in his moving letter to journalists in Holland in 1941. He was reacting to the latest Nazi edict which required that Catholic newspapers publish Nazi propaganda. "We will not do it!" declared Fr. Titus who was the spiritual director of the Catholic press. The Carmelite knew that the reprisals against him would be severe. He did not think that they would be so swift; within days he was arrested and six months later would die at the age of 61 at Dachau concentration camp, a martyr for the cause of freedom of the (Catholic) press.
