THE Housing Executive has identified a large increase in Newtownabbey's waiting list as a primary cause for concern.
Colm McCaughley, the Housing Executive's director of housing and regeneration, highlighted the rise of almost 35% since 2004 during a presentation of the new District Housing Plan to Newtownabbey councillors.
Latest figures show that 1,713 applicants were waiting for social housing in the borough last year, compared with 1,258 in 2004.
The director revealed that there has also been a sharp rise in the number of of "housing stress" applicants locally - those with a points tally of over 30 - who are given priority in the allocations system.In ...
