Each night from the kitchen counter the new 
fifty-inch television fans a bluish light 
in blades through our three rooms quite bare 
 
of stacked books, piled paper, and magazines 
beyond their dates. Near the metallic green door 
for trash, the slender porcelain Mary, 
 
her arms full of lilies, tilts on top of my sweaters 
in a Crate & Barrel bag. My brother's frog- 
enameled green on brass--squats in a box in the entry 
 
among Wellfleet mugs and Italian dessert plates 
painted with a blue Saxon ...
