In a weekend interview, Vincent Browne revealed that he felt his late night current affairs programme was cancelled due to his criticism of RTE's coverage of the Abbeylara siege.
"It had been my view all along and remains my view that RTE's conduct during the course of the siege, as it was called, which resulted in the killing of John Carthy, was widely irresponsible," Mr Browne commented. "It fitted into their agenda of hyping anything to do with crime or security." RTE has rejected these claims, stating that 'Tonight with Vincent Browne' was cancelled because it had "simply run its course after 10 years".
