Local Fianna Fail Deputy Peter Kelly said the degree of confusion about the Lisbon Treaty was a major factor in the 'no' vote in the constituency.
"We would be disappointed with the result. We put in a big effort; we did the best we could in Co Longford. I'd like to thank our supporters and all the people in the Fianna Fail organisation who did all the work.
"The people have spoken and we'd have to say that maybe the Lisbon treaty was a bit complicated. It wasn't just a simple, straightforward referendum," he said.
