Treat a song like a movie and you can't go wrong, says actress/songstress Liza Minnelli, who knows a little bit about both.

"You have a character breakdown of each song. I write it myself," says Minnelli, one of three artists due to be enshrined in the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame on Friday.

"The secret is to know exactly who the woman is, what led up to the moment that she's singing it and why she is singing it. It's an acting breakdown of the words."
